ABOUT IRON INFUSIONS

Dont let low iron
hold you back

Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutritional deficiencies in Australia — yet it remains significantly undertreated. When oral iron supplements aren't enough, or aren't well tolerated, an intravenous iron infusion delivers fast, effective iron restoration directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the digestive system entirely.

Unlike oral supplements, which can take months to raise iron stores and frequently cause gastrointestinal side effects, a single iron infusion can restore your iron levels within four to six weeks — with most patients noticing improved energy and reduced fatigue within days of treatment.

A GP or specialist referral and current iron studies are required before treatment can be administered. If you are unsure whether an iron infusion is appropriate for you, please consult your general practitioner.

FAQ'S

Frequently asked questions

A valid GP or specialist referral and recent iron studies are required before an infusion can be administered. If you don't have a referral yet, we offer a bulk-billed iron assessment via telehealth or in clinic — our team can determine whether an infusion is appropriate and provide a referral on the spot.
The infusion fee is $185, plus the cost of your iron medication (up to $25 under the PBS). A $65 surcharge applies to weekend appointments. Eligible concession cardholders receive 10% off the infusion cost. Medicare rebates may apply — we'll confirm your entitlements before your appointment.
Most infusions take between 60 and 90 minutes, followed by a brief observation period before discharge. Please allow approximately two hours for your total visit.
A Medicare rebate may apply to the consultation component of your appointment. The iron medication and infusion administration fee are not covered under Medicare in this setting. Our team will advise you of your exact out-of-pocket costs before you attend.
The cannula insertion feels similar to a standard blood test — a brief sting that passes quickly. Once in place, the infusion itself is not painful. Some patients experience mild warmth or flushing during treatment, which is normal and monitored throughout by our nursing team.
Most patients drive themselves home without any issue. However, if you feel dizzy, fatigued, or unwell after your infusion, we recommend arranging alternative transport. We advise all patients to plan for a quiet afternoon following their appointment.
Many patients notice improved energy within one to two weeks. Full restoration of iron stores typically occurs over four to six weeks and is confirmed through follow-up blood tests ordered by your GP. Individual results vary depending on the severity of your deficiency.
Once you've booked online, our team will be in touch a few days before your appointment to reconfirm. If you have any concerns in the meantime, call us on 1300 070 731.
Yes, phone bookings are available. Our team will send you an email requesting the following before your appointment: GP referral, Prescription, Patient registration and pre-assessment form. If you are elderly or have difficulty with email, our team can assist you with a fully forms-free booking over the phone.
